 FRIENDS FALL FESTIVAL FACTS 
WHEN: October 10, 2009

WHERE: Downingtown Friends Meeting, Downingtown, Pa. (Get map & directions)

WHAT TIME: 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.

WHAT’S GOING ON: Six hours of good food, good music, great sales, and great fun.

Keep your kids busy: Our Young Friends Frolics provide crafts and games to keep them busy for hours. Buy an All Day Fun Pass for $10 and save!

Crafts include pumpkin decorating, Trick O’ Treat bag decorating, sand art, and more.

Games include carnival-like games for kids, plus a special rubber duckie fish pond for pre-schoolers. All activities are fully supervised in an enclosed play area.

Special this year: Juggler Kit Summers will entertain the kids while they play.

Get your face painted: We don’t just have face painting. We offer "face art," beautifully designed facial art lovely painted by our talented artists. And you don’t have to be a kid to get your face painted !

Listen to great music: Five hours of live music will keep adults entertained. Six different acts, including a special appearance by the renowned Colonial Revelers, a choral group that sings 18th and 19th-century music. Or stop by our Quaker Jukebox from 10 A.M.-2 P.M.and have the person in the box play a tune for you.

Shop for great buys: Shop til’ you drop in our Friends Mercantile, the largest white elephant sale in the region. If you can’t find something to your liking here, it probably doesn’t exist. Shop for gifts, antiques, housewares, kids toys (a whole room full), electronics, jewelry, and lots of books.

Shop for unique gifts: Shop our 30+ craft vendors—selling handcrafted ceramics, jewelry, wooden ware, quilts, embroidery and more—for those unique items you just can’t find anywhere else.

Eat great food: Start your day with a cup of our Festival Coffee or specialty tea, accompanied by a homemade muffin in our Friendly Café, open at 9 A.M. After shopping our Friends Mercantile, you’ll want some comfort food. Go to our Wooden Ladle, open at 10 A.M., and try a big cup of our homemade vegetable soup or vegetarian chili, accompanied by a roll. Or munch on a soft pretzel while drinking a cup of hot chocolate, available in our Friendly Café, which offers Chocolate Lovers’ Brownies, homemade pies and cakes, delicious Festival Fudge, and handmade Quaker bread from Lancaster County.

Learn about Quaker history: Take some time to step inside our Meetinghouse to learn more about our Meeting and view our collection of antique Quaker clothing. Then stop at The Quaker Way on the side porch and find out what the Religious Society of Friends is all about.

Attend a Quaker wedding: At 1 P.M. the participants in our Quaker wedding re-enactment begin to mill about outside the Meetinghouse. They’ll invite you inside to attend a re-enactment of the first wedding held in our Meetinghouse. The ceremony begins in silence at 1:30 P.M. Afterwards, the bride and groom and their guests pose for photographs outside.

Find new plants for your home and garden: Stop by The Grapevine, our garden boutique, to browse the indoor and outdoor plants for sale. Special this year: David Culp offers his unique collection of hellebores. But plants aren’t the only thing in this horticultural booth. Be sure to check out our new Chester County collection of photographic magnets. They’ll surely dress up your refrigerator door. Collect them all.

As always, there's free admission and plenty of free parking in lots across from our Meeting.
