David
Culp, noted horticulturist, is a gardener’s gardener. Since 1990, he
has fashioned a horticultural wonderland on two acres adjoining a late
18th-century farmhouse he affectionately refers to as
Brandywine Cottage, situated between forks of Brandywine Creek. Here
reside a variety of plants, some common, some exotic, including roses,
peonies, scores of iris, cyclamen, and Culp’s specialty, hellebores.
Culp will be offering his gardening expertise at The Greenery at the
Grapevine, the plant sale at the Friends Fall Festival in Downingtown,
Pennsylvania on October 10, 2009.
Culp has lectured for the past 15 years
on a variety of horticultural topics, including "Native Plants for
the Home Landscape," "The Garden in Winter," and
"Hellebores." He also teaches two courses at Longwood Gardens,
"Perennials for Sun" and "Perennials for Shade." In
addition, he has made guest appearances on the highly popular television
shows HGTV and Martha Stewart Living.
Besides
his gardening and teaching, Culp is an accomplished writer, having been
published in a variety of magazines, such as Country Living, Colonial
Home, Chester County Living, and Martha Stewart Living.
He’s also a contributing editor for Horticultural Magazine and
a regular contributor to Fine Gardening Magazine.
Downingtown Friends Meeting is fortunate
to have Culp as a member. This year he'll be selling a fine grouping of
unique fall blooming perennials, classics, updated cultivars, and native
plants for both sun and shade perennial gardens at The Greenery at the
Grapevine.
He’ll be available to answer gardening
questions from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and plans to offer two 15-minute talks–one
in the morning and one in the afternoon–on his favorite plants. For
